Horizontal Room
Comparison

Overview

I led development of a horizontal room comparison experience for the Booking.com iOS app, implementing the interface and its logic from start to finish. The experience helps travellers compare rates for the same room and understand what each option includes.

The Problem

Room rates often differ in only a few ways, such as cancellation terms or whether breakfast is included. The previous experience placed rates in a long, price-sorted vertical list, repeating room size, bed configuration and amenities. Rates for the same room were not always next to each other, so a cheaper rate for one room could appear above a more expensive rate for another. That made it difficult for travellers to see what they would get for paying more.

A Horizontal Comparison

The new layout keeps shared details such as room size, bed configuration and amenities together in a room card, while placing that room’s rates horizontally. Travellers can scan the differences between rates in context and choose an option based on what matters to them.

Room rates are grouped horizontally within each room, making their differences easier to compare.

Room Details

The comparison also carries into room details, keeping the rates visible together while travellers review information about the selected room.

Outcome

The experience made it easier for travellers to understand what higher-priced rates offered and compare options based on value. Accessibility was fully verified through manual checks and an external audit.
